Harold Haskin “Bud” Lukens

Harold Haskin “Bud” Lukens, 91, Emporia, died April 21, 2011.

He was born Oct. 10, 1920, at Frankfort, the son of Dr. M.E. and Hazel Haskin Lukens. He moved to Valley Falls in 1936 and graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1938.

He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1947. He was a cattleman in Jefferson County for many years. He had lived at McLouth before moving to Lawrence where he lived most of his life. In the past few years the Lukens made their home in Emporia to be close to family. He was a member of the Lawrence Congregational Church and Lawrence Kiwanis Club.

He married Bette McLeod Jan. 9, 1942, in Pasadena, Calif. She survives of the home.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Mellor, Wichita, and Cindy Miller, Emporia; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lukens donated his body to the University of Kansas for medical research. Memorial services will be private.
