Elmer Beurman

Elmer William Beurman, 79, rural Oskaloosa, died March 8, 2011, at his home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1932, at Shawnee, the son of Oliver William and Helen E. Coker Beurman.

He worked as a truck driver for Graham Ship by Truck Co. in Topeka since he was 19 years old. He retired in 1988 after 37 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean war from 1952 to 1954.

He was a member of Ozawkie American Legion Post No. 225. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union in Topeka.

He married Dorothy Jean Bahm Jan. 19, 1952, at Harrison, Ark. she preceded him in death Dec. 8, 2000.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda S. Courter, Sue A. Artman, and Teresa M. Patterson, all of Oskaloosa; one brother, Richard Karl Beurman, Oskaloosa; one sister, Carolyn Chiddix, Topeka; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by twin sons, Mark and Michael Beurman, one grandson, Matthew Elmer Beurman, and a brother, Bill Beurman.

Graveside services were March 9 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Topeka.

Memorials are suggested to Jefferson County Home Health or to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice and sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
