Shupe resigns from position at Oskaloosa Elementary School

Oskaloosa Elementary School principal Darren Shupe has submitted a letter of resignation.

Superintendent Jon Pfau said Tuesday morning that Shupe will finish out his contract that runs through the end of June. On Monday the USD 341 board voted unanimously to accept Shupe’s resignation.

“Mr. Shupe gave us 12 great years of outstanding service,” Pfau said.

Shupe is wrapping up his 12th year as an administrator with the district.

Pfau said in his letter he did not give a specific reason for resigning. However, Pfau said that Shupe expressed that he wanted to pursue other opportunities within education. Shupe could not be reached for comment before press time.

Pfau said the district will advertise for a new elementary school principal this week and expects an application deadline to be set sometime from mid to late March.

He said the board does not want to put a deadline on making a decision but expects the process to take at least six weeks.

“I think we don’t want to rush any decision,” Pfau said. “But we can always accelerate that if we want to.”

Pfau said the board will look inside and outside the district for candidates.

In another move the school board extended the contracts of Pfau and High School Principal Doug Beisel by an additional year. Each contract will run through June 2013.
