Oskaloosa’s Hickman places second at DVL tournament

Oskaloosa freshman Lance Hickman placed second in the 189 pound weight class in the inaugural Delaware Valley Wrestling Tournament that was held at Pleasant Ridge High School on Saturday. Hickman had a 4-1 record on the day.

Oskaloosa freshman Lance Hickman looked to the referee for a call as he pinned his Immaculata opponent in the first round on Saturday.

Cory Butner placed third in the 125 pound weight class. Butner had a 1-2 record on the day.

Last year’s state qualifier junior Daniel Rhodes placed third in the 171 pound weight class. Rhodes lost his first match to Kyle White of Horton and dropped his second match by a point in the last 15 seconds of the third round. But, Rhodes came back to win his last three matches to finish 3-2 on the day.

Sophomore Alberto Rodriguez placed fourth in the 215 pound weight class. After pinning his first opponent quickly Rodriguez finished 2-3 on the day.

Freshman Billy Frakes finished 0-3 in the 285 pound weight class but was actually wrestling at 210 pounds and was wrestling against much bigger wrestlers.

All five will travel to Silver Lake High School on Friday for a double elimination regional tournament. The top four placers in each weight class will qualify for the state tournament in Hays the following week.
