New attorney joins prosecutor’s office
by Dennis Sharkey
The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s office has a new face.
Thomas Knutzen joined the staff Jan. 26 as Assistant County Attorney.
Knutzen graduated from the University of Kansas with a double major in history and political science before obtaining his law degree in 2009 from KU.
Knutzen said his decision to pursue a law degree came while he was an undergraduate at KU. He also met his wife, Amy, while at KU. The couple have lived in Jefferson County with their son since July.
His wife has family connections in Jefferson County and many of the couple’s friends including fellow Assistant County Attorney Josh Ney, who is also his neighbor. Knutzen is originally from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
Before coming to Jefferson County Knutzen practiced as an Assistant District Attorney in Shawnee County.
Knutzen said he will prosecute most criminal law but his main focus will be on juvenile issues.
