McLouth has a new superintendent

by Dennis Sharkey

The search for a new superintendent for McLouth USD 342 is over.

Board clerk Lorie Patterson said on Monday that Steve Splichal has accepted the position of superintendent. Patterson said as of Monday his tentative starting date would be July 1, although she said there will have to be some transition with issues such as the budget.

Splichal is currently serving as the assistant superintendent for Hiawatha USD 415.

The board interviewed three finalists for the position last week starting with Oskaloosa native Chris Korb who works for the Shawnee Heights USD 450. Last Wednesday, Jan. 26, the board interviewed Brian Pekarek who currently serves as superintendent for Clifton-Clyde USD 224. The board interviewed Splichal on Thursday, Jan. 27.

The board met in closed session Sunday night before making the announcement Monday morning.

Current Superintendent Jean Rush’s last day will be June 30. On July 1 she will begin her new job as the superintendent of Holcomb USD 363.

The board’s next regular meeting will be Feb. 14, however, Spichal will not be able to attend. Patterson said another special meeting could be scheduled before the next board meeting that Spichal would attend to be introduced.
