Willard E. “Bill” Dunn

Willard E. “Bill” Dunn, 87, of Valley Falls, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in Winchester.

He was born April 18, 1923, at Topeka, the son of William Albert and Edith Lillian Morris Dunn.

He was a 1941 graduate of Valley Falls High School. He was a Veteran of WWII and of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, and 1951 to 1953.

He worked as a painter through the Painter’s and Plasterer’s Union Local #80 in Mississippi. He served 16 years as a police officer and detective for the Topeka Police Department.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Topeka.

He married Ella Virginia Stribling in 1968. She preceded him in death Sept. 11, 2004. He is survived by two sons, Michael Edward Reece, Topeka, and James Scott Reece, Portland, Ore.; daughter, Mary Christine Reece, Topeka; sister, Ella Mae Holding, Winchester; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, including his twin, William Albert Dunn, and Leo Dunn; and a sister, Mary E. Gibler.

Cremation is planned. A memorial visitation gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa. Inurnment will be at a later date at the West Tennessee

Veteran’s Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice or to the F.W. Huston Senior Living Center in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
