Valley Falls residents invited to Town Hall meeting

Valley Falls residents are invited to supper and a Town Hall Meeting starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26. The gathering will be in the Kendall State Bank’s community hall.
The city’s Economic Development Committee along with the mayor and city council are sponsoring the event.
“It’s been a couple of years since we held one of these meetings,” Council woman Lucy Thomas said. “We hope people will give us some direction to work toward.”
The menu consists of soup, chili and cinnamon rolls.
“We want all residents to feel welcome. We are planning to feed 100 people,” Thomas said. “If 200 people show up, they will get a cup of soup instead of a bowl.”
Along with ideas, the EDC would like to enlist more volunteers to help carry out some projects.
The new city administrator, Chis Channell, formerly of Hays, will lead the program following the meal.
Thomas said she knows there are a number of people interested in city beautification.
“We need to find out what projects people want, who is willing to help, and begin to set goals,” she said.
Thomas, who is the council’s representative on the 12-member EDC board, said they would like to partner with owners of vacant buildings to search for ways to bring more business to the main street.
Thomas is hopeful that the city’s attempt to save and improve one building downtown with the intent of moving city hall back on Broadway will spur others to take an interest in improving the business district.
“Maybe it will snowball a little bit,” she said.
