Hugh Lawrence Seetin

Hugh Lawrence Seetin, 80, Perry, died Jan. 20, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Hugh SeetinHe was born Sept. 25, 1930, at Lawrence, the son of George Jackson and Irene Harrison Seetin.

He was a 1948 graduate of Perry Rural High School and was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1952.

He worked as an instrument technician for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Topeka, retiring after 30 years.

He was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church and was a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 415 A.F. & A.M. in Perry. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Arab Shrine in Topeka and had served on the director’s staff of the Shrine.

He served on the Perry City Council and as mayor of the city of Perry. He was a member of the Kentucky Township Fire Department and American Legion Post No. 142 in Perry.

He married Hazel A. Ogden Aug. 24, 1952, at Idana. She survives at home.

He is also survived by one son, Richard Seetin, Perry; one daughter, Marcia Wilson, Perry; two brothers, David Seetin, Kansas City, and Roy Seetin, Perry; one sister, Reba Bigelow, Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Fay, Elbert, Charles, Alvin, Durel, Gale, Howard and Terry.

Funeral services were Jan. 24 at the Perry United Methodist Church. Burial, with American Legion and Kansas National Guard honors, was at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Memorials can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital Traveling Fund of the Arab Shrine of Topeka or to the Perry United Methodist Church and sent in care of Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
