Darrel May

Darrel D. “Dusty” May, 75, Denison, died Jan. 11, 2011, at Loma Linda (Calif.) University Hospital.

Darrel D. “Dusty” MayHe was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Woods County, Okla., the son of Hubert “Toby” and Mary Grace Cummings May.

He graduated from Denison Rural High School and later served in the U.S. Army. He had lived the last 30 years in California.

He was a heavy equipment operator, a crop duster, and a farmer. He was a former member of the Denison Union Church.

He married Marilyn Jane Brownlow. They divorced.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Butler, Holton; a son, Daniel May, Topeka; two sisters, Doreen Huston, New Braunfels, Texas, and Sharon Hollander, Whiting; his stepmother, Barbara May, Holton; stepsiblings, Dennis Reed, Florida, Peggy Gibson, Texas, Fred Coker, Florida, Patty Lockhart and Harry Coker, Kansas, and Brett Coker, California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 18 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Interment was in the Denison Cemetery.

Memorials can be given to the Jackson County Fair Association or Denison Bible Church and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, 66436.
