Valley Falls girls are middle school champs

The Valley Falls girls won the Delaware Valley League Middle School Tournament Saturday beating Atchison County Community in overtime, 34-30.

ACC was undefeated for the season going into the tournament. Valley Falls had a record of 11-1, having lost only one game — and that was to ACC.

The championship game remained close and hard fought throughout ending with a 29-29 tie in regular time.

Valley Falls drew a bye in the tournament that began Monday and then defeated Jefferson County North, 31-9, Tuesday and Doniphan West, 33-21, Thursday.

Other teams in the tournament were Wathena, Pleasant Ridge, Xavier, and Troy. The finals were played at Wathena.

The Effingham team, entering the tournament undefeated, are league champions. Valley Falls brought home the top tournament trophy. The Dragons are coached by Rodney Watson.
