Prompt care available in Jefferson County
Jefferson Medical Clinic in cooperation with F.W. Huston Medical Center, Winchester, opened its doors on Prompt Care Oct. 1, the newest Jefferson County urgent care center.
Prompt Care came about because of the increasing need for fast, urgent and yet not emergent medical care, the bulk of which is historically treated in the emergency department after hours.
“The concern is this: the cost of treating non-emergent problems in the emergency department is skyrocketing, and people don’t need an $800 or $1000 bill every time they have a simple cold or ankle sprain,” said Susan Quirk, PA-C, one of six providers at FWH and Prompt Care. “The idea of Prompt Care makes sense more now than ever, when many patients in the community are either underinsured or uninsured, or have co-payments that are much larger for ER visits than for clinic or urgent care visits.”
Hours for F.W. Huston Prompt Care are Monday through Friday, 4:30 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. and all day Saturday and Sunday.
A minimum co-pay is requested at the time of treatment and they will bill insurance companies.
