Pearl Flory

Pearl Margeurite Flory, 91, Valley Falls, died Dec. 10, 2010, at Village Villa Care Center in Nortonville.

She was born Aug. 30, 1919, at Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of August M. and Leota Pearl Harden Gontz. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1937.

She was a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church and the U & I Club. After her retirement, she had worked in several area restaurants.

She married George Elvin Flory Feb. 12, 1938, in Topeka. They farmed in the Coal Creek community north of Valley Falls. He died April 24, 1987.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Flory, Aug. 28, 1960, a brother, James Calvin Gontz, a sister, Elsie Page, and a great-granddaughter, Danielle Romesburg, in 2001.

Survivors include a son, Donald Flory, Valley Falls; two daughters, June Long, Meriden, and Ruth Prather, Oskaloosa; a sister, Eileen Acheson, Effingham; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was Dec. 13 at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Coal Creek Cemetery.
