Merle Chalmers

Merle E. Chalmers, 81, Topeka, died Dec. 22, 2010.

He was born Dec. 31, 1928, to Wilhelmina and Phillip Chalmers at Green. He graduated from Manhattan High School.

He married Anna Hunt at Denison Sept. 1, 1957.

He was employed and retired from the Kansas Army National Guard after 23 years. He was then employed at McAbee and Kobach Buick body shops.

He was a Past Master of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 and a Past Monarch of Media Grotto, and a member of Daylight Lodge No. 454, Helena Chapter No. 210, and Mayetta Chapter No. 383, OES.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Dawn Harris, Karen Chance, and Connie Ridgeway; a son, Mark; six grandsons; twin granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. Interment was in Rochester Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted by Golden Rule Lodge and military honors by Kansas Army National Guard.
