Becker sentenced to six years in prison

Former Meriden Bank President Scott D. Becker was sentenced to six years in federal prison on Monday for embezzling more than $2 million from the bank.

According to a report in the Topeka Capital Journal Becker had requested to be released for a week before reporting to jail but his request was denied by federal judge Julie A. Robinson. It was noted that Becker was considered a serious flight risk.

A second former bank employee, Stephanie R. Smith, will be sentenced next month. A third defendant and an associate of Becker, Michael R. Wurm, is scheduled to be in court next month to change his plea.

Becker’s wife, Sharon Schmitt Becker, is still scheduled to go on trial next month for her part in allegedly covering up the crime. Her trial is expected to begin next month.
