Oskaloosans want to express community pride after winning state volleyball title
by Dennis Sharkey
Winning a state championship in volleyball is generating a lot of community spirit and the phones are ringing.
“It’s funny because that’s all I’ve really heard everywhere I’ve been in the past week,” Pfau said. “What can we do about a sign? How can I help?
“There’s been a lot of talk even at the board level,” Pfau added. “I’ve gotten a lot of phone calls on that.”
The Bears already have a sign that greets visitors on southbound 59 Hwy., but the sign is outdated and hasn’t had a fresh coat of paint in several years.
Pfau said the board is currently in fact-finding mode but he expects something to happen sooner rather than later. The phone has been ringing and some patrons are asking how they can donate.
In other actions:
- The mill levy for the district went down slightly but no adjustment will be made. Pfau said assessed valuation declined slightly for the district. He said the decline was factored into the budget because it was anticipated.
- Bids are being solicited for construction of a new concession stand and press box area for the baseball field. Pfau said the project will be a combined shared cost between the district, the recreation commission, and the ball association. This summer the football press box was reconstructed and a new sound system was installed. The softball press box and concession stand were also reconstructed recently.
