Area firefighters battle fire east of Valley Falls

Hay FireVolunteer firefighters out of Winchester, Nortonville and Valley Falls teamed up twice last week to combat fires. Hay bales caught fire at the Joel Edwards place west of Dunavant about 12:30 p.m. Nov. 10 and kept the departments busy until 4 p.m. A spark from a trash barrel is believed to be the culprit. The firefighters met again at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Les Needham residence about five miles east of Valley Falls where a shed had caught fire. District 11 Fire Chief John Gordon said an electrical problem is believed to have been the cause of that fire. Photo by Clarke Davis
