Gerald Kooser

Gerald L. “Jay” Kooser, 86, Perry, died Sept. 22, 2010, at his home.

He was born July 4, 1924, at Vermillion, the son of Burt L. and Blanche Irene Craig Kooser.

He was a 1942 graduate of Valley Falls High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1945 to 1946. He worked as an instrument specialist for Farmland Industries Co-op in Lawrence for over 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Perry Christian Church and had served as a school board member for U.S.D. No. 343 in Perry.

He married Florence I. Hull May 20, 1945, at Ft. Leavenworth. She survives at home.

Survivors also include, three sons, Mike Kooser, Ozawkie, Bob Kooser, Berryton, and Ronnie Kooser, Cleveland, Mo.; a daughter, Kim Wiles, Tonganoxie; a brother, Burton Kooser, Basehor; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A Visitation Gathering Service was held Sept. 25 at Perry Christian Church. Inurnment and graveside services were Sept. 27 at Underwood Cemetery, Williamstown.

Memorials can be made to Parkinsons Foundation of Kansas or to American Diabetes foundation of Kansas and sent in care of Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
