Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Ann Bertels
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Ann Bertels, 72, Nortonville, KS passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Nortonville, KS with Fr. John Reynolds as Celebrant. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Elizabeth was born April 2, 1938 in McLouth, KS the daughter of Harold ‘Shorty’ and Myrtle (Myers) King. She graduated from Nortonville High School in 1956. Liz was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed all types of arts and crafts. She liked crocheting, doing bead work, canning foods and cooking. She was extremely family oriented and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Liz married Robert Joseph Bertels on June 25, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Church, Nortonville. Bob preceded her in death on August 7, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her father; sons, Gary Wayne and Bryan J. Bertels and a brother, Robert ‘Bob’ King.
Survivors include her mother, Myrtle King, Hiawatha, KS; sons, Steve Robert Bertels, Evans, CO; Kenneth Lee Bertels, Madison, KS; Ronald Eugene (Brenda) Bertels, Nortonville, KS; Darin Wayne Bertels, Steilken, WA; daughters, Cynthia Sue (Ronald) Kesse, Cummings, KS; Sherry (Greg) Wagner, Nortonville, KS; Lynette M. (Raymond) Chmidling, Loveland, CO; Denise Renee Jones, Kingfisher, OK; Lisa Jean (Matt) Swigert, Kansas City, MO; Dawn Michelle Ellerman, Nortonville, KS; brother, Richard King, Falls City, NE; sisters, Shirley Pantle, Nortonville, KS; Nancy Scherer, Atchison, KS; Barbara Keifer, Atchison, KS; Deborah ‘Debbie’ King, Hiawatha, KS; 37 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
