Although the sign still says Metzger’s Bear Essentials a lot has changed including the name and owner.
The convenience and gas station is now known as Route 92 Quick Shop and Bait and new owner Jeannine Williams promises even more changes.
One change already in place is the store now serves breakfast in addition to the quick items that were available before. Williams said she is still working on a new kitchen in the back of the store that will feature Krispy Krunchy fried chicken. The new menu will also feature some other expanded items.
Williams, in addition to running the store, also operates Top Choice Insurance and Anytime Bail Bonds. Both offices have moved to the remodeled space next door to the store.
Williams said she didn’t have plans to buy a convenience store but saw an opportunity when she found out it was for sale. She also saw an opportunity to move her businesses which have been on the square since 2000.
Williams said the biggest challenge so far has been figuring out the gasoline. She said Ron Heston has stayed on to help her with the transitions but her staff has also been a big help.
“I’ve got a great staff that works for me,” Williams said. “They’ve made it so much easier on me.”
Although some changes are coming slowly, Williams said that public response has been good.
“Right now we’re taking baby steps to stay functional,” Williams said. “The community has been great and the reaction has been real good.”
