Gary Spreer

Gary Wayne Spreer, 60, rural Perry, died Sept. 11, 2010, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1949, at Belleville, the son of Alfred H.P. and Alice Marie Rahe Spreer.

Living in Perry most of his life, he was a 1967 graduate of Perry Rural High School. He worked for Hamm’s Construction Co. in Perry before entering the military. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, serving from 1969 to 1971.

He was a member of the Perry American Legion Post No. 142. He worked for 30 years as the human resource manager at K-Mart Distribution Center in Lawrence. He most recently served as a substitute rural mail carrier in Lawrence for eight years until his illness disabled him.

He was a member of the Lawrence area Chamber of Commerce.

He married Cinda “Cindy” S. Jones July 13, 1973, at Miami, Okla. She survives at home.

He is also survived by two sons, Jason Spreer, Perry, and Kevin Spreer, Lawrence; three brothers, Stanley Spreer and Jim Spreer, both Perry, and Kenney Spreer, Grantville; two sisters, Beverly Wright, Perry, and Doris Rusche, Seneca; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Spreer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Perry American Legion building. Burial with Legion honors will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Visitation was from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lawrence Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, 3821 W. 6th St., Lawrence.

Memorials can be made to Grace Hospice or to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society and sent in care of the Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, P.O. Box 416, Oskaloosa, 66066.
