Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine “Geri” Frances Ha, 62, Shawnee, formerly of Lawrence, was held Dec. 30 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Cremation followed the service.
She died Dec. 28, 2006, at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. She was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Garnett, the daughter of John R. and Mary Catherine Hoefler Lickteig. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas in 1999 with a bachelor’s in English. She was a member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a flight attendant for 19 years for Continental Airline and had formerly owned a flower business in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She married Wayne L. Ha June 25, 1983, in Laguna Beach, Calif. He survives of the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Christina Ha, Shawnee; one brother, Wayne Lickteig, Corpus Christi, Texas; and one sister, Marcella Ryan, Valley Falls.
Memorials can be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or to the K.C. Hospice House and sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.
Virginia D. Keen
Virginia D. Keen, 87, Willits, CA, formerly of Topeka, died Sunday, December 24, 2006, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital at Santa Rosa, CA.
Mrs. Keen was a foster grandparent at the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka for 25 years. She had lived at Willits, CA since 2003. She was born Oct. 25, 1919, at Ottawa, the daughter of William “Harry” and Florence Gaddis Bruce. She graduated from Ottawa High school in 1938.
She married Edwin Lyman Keen on Oct. 15, 1945, at Lawrence. Mr. Keen was the voice of Uncle Ezra Hawkins on WIBW Radio for many years. He died on June 21, 1967.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia E. Rose and her husband Ed, Willits, CA, and Edwina Ditmore, Topeka; six grandchildren, Debra Castle, Reseda, CA, Kim Presswood and Dusty Bluthardt, Fort Bragg, CA and Rebecca, Jessica and Michelle Ditmore, Topeka, and five great-grandchildren, Jason, Asleigh and Cameron Castle, Reseda, CA, and Caleb Camfield and Ryan Presswood, Ft. Bragg, CA.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences are available at www.mercerfuneralhomes.com
Everett King Jr.
Everett King Jr., 69, Valley Falls, formerly of Westminster, S.C., and El Paso, Texas, died Dec. 31, 2006, at the home of his sister, Linda Metzger, west of Valley Falls.
Mr. King was an electrician at a food processing plant and at a Levi Strauss manufacturing plant, both at El Paso for 30 years. Before moving to Valley Falls he had lived at Westminster for five years where he was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was born May 31, 1937, at Ozawkie, the son of Everett Sr. and Lilly Meyers King. He attended Ozawkie High School and served in the U.S. Army. He married Reynalda Serrano Dec. 20, 1960, at El Paso. They were divorced. He was preceded in death by a brother, Daryle King, and three sisters, Lecta Decker, Betty Debure and Arlene Payne. Survivors include four sons, Everett King III, Don William King, and Mark Anthony King, all of El Paso, and Rodney Matthew King, San Antonio, Texas; two stepsons, Pete Lopez, Phoenix, and Fernie Lopez, El Paso; three daughters, Tanya Dieter, El Paso, Tara Carter, Westminster, and Kimberly Bade, Berlin, Germany; a brother, Alvin King, Oskaloosa; four sisters, Oleta King, Valley Falls, Louise Illig, Topeka, Darlene Boyette, Deepwater, Mo., and Linda Metzger, Valley Falls; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A memorial graveside service was held Jan. 3, at the Ozawkie Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by members of Grahem-Herbers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3084, Valley Falls. Virginia C. Hansford, 80, Topeka, died Dec. 30, 2006, at Plaza West Care Center.
She was born March 9, 1926, on a farm in Atchison County, the daughter of Ezekiel B. and Helen E. Starr Pace. She graduated from Effingham High School. After graduation, she moved to Topeka and retired from the American Home Life Insurance Company.
She married Alan D. Hansford in 1951 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Survivors include a son, Alan D. Hansford Jr., Topeka; two brothers, Francis M. Pace, Hepler, and Harold W. Pace Sr., Holton; and a sister, Lavone R. Roderick, Lubbock, Texas.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 4, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka, and burial followed in West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, 66603.
