Bernice Brunton

Bernice M. Brunton, 92, died Dec. 16, 2009, in Fayetteville, Ark.

She was born Jan. 26, 1917, to Irl and Margaret Baker near Ozawkie, and lived there until 1942.

Most of her life was spent in Raytown, Mo., where she completed 32 years of teaching in elementary grades in 1981.

She graduated from Ozawkie Rural High School in 1935 and from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1957. She was a member of Raytown Christian Church and an associate member of the First Christian Church in Fayetteville. She was a member of Chapter K PEO Sisterhood.

Her husband of 59 years, Elton W. Brunton, preceded her in death May 1, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her only son, Dr. Ellis W. Brunton July 5, 2009.

Survivors include a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Flott. Leon Brunton, Ozawkie, is a nephew.
