Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 Burglaries of businesses increase in Valley Falls by Clarke Davis Two burglaries occurred over the weekend in Valley Falls involving two businesses. The Old Elevator was broken into Sunday morning. Entry was made through a skylight but an alarm sounded and nothing was found missing. It was discovered Monday morning that someone had pried open the front door to the Western Hardware & Auto at some point in time after closing Saturday. A small amount of cash, less than $100, was taken. Police Chief Tammy Gross said a reported burglary at St. Mary’s Catholic Church turned out to be a misunderstanding. “There was no burglary at the church,” she said. Gross said the two recent burglaries could be tied to a break-in Jan. 31 at Mac’s Grill & Pizza. She said her department, working with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, does have some leads but did not want to expound further. |
