Feldkamp hired as new superintendent by VF board

by Clarke Davis

Loren Feldkamp, 51, Udall, has been hired as superintendent of schools for USD 338, Valley Falls.

The school board offered Feldkamp a two-year contract when it met Jan. 21. The salary is not to exceed $92,000 with fringe benefits.

He is currently the superintendent of USD 463 at Udall where he has been since 2005.

He was a social science teacher starting in 1980 at B&B High School in Baileyville—the high school which he graduated from in 1974. In 2000 he went to Onaga where he was the athletic director and later high school principal.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University and acquired adminstrative licensing through Fort Hays State.

Feldkamp grew up on a farm near Baileyville and his wife, Nancy, is from nearby Axtell.

“All of our family is in that area,” he said. His mother is retired and living in Seneca. An older brother, Duane Feldkamp, is a retired educator at Effingham. The couple has three children, Scott Feldkamp, employed by an electrical distribution company at Olathe; Janine Feldkamp, a special education teacher at Derby; and Matthew, a senior who will graduate at Udall this May.

Mrs. Feldkamp has been a grade school paraprofessional in recent years.

Feldkamp will begin his duties here July 1. He follows David Grove, 64, who resigned last fall after 13 years in the district. Grove was high school principal seven years and has been superintendent the last six.
